The restaurant, located in Hong Kong, spans an impressive 3,500 square feet. It houses four distinct sections: Toge by Jyungin, a high-end izakaya; Eclipse by Luna Cafe and Bar, an all-day dining venue; Painduce, a bakery imported from Osaka; and a physical station for Go81.com, an online Japanese specialty store. Each section is designed to immerse customers in a different aspect of Japanese culture.
The design of Toge by Jyungin draws inspiration from Hokkaido, featuring a cave-like entrance and an Ainu-inspired bear mural. This section recreates the izakaya ambience of Sapporo’s Jyungin. Eclipse by Luna Cafe and Bar, on the other hand, uses the moon as a key design element, creating an ethereal dining experience. Painduce, the bakery section, breaks traditional bakery norms with a stunning neon sign logo, reflecting its innovative approach to bread-making. Lastly, the Go81.com station adopts a traditional Japanese interior design, offering a contrast to the modern aesthetics of the other sections.
The unique properties of Yachi Kura lie in its ability to differentiate the four sectors using different colours of artistic coating and restructuring the area to create a travel journey. Customers can move from one sector to another via a walkway, experiencing a shift in atmosphere and design with each transition. This design approach not only maintains the uniqueness of each section but also creates a cohesive overall experience that is akin to a journey through various aspects of Japanese culture.
The realization of this multi-concept design was not without challenges. The varied styles and themes of each section required careful consideration to ensure they could be incorporated into one spot while maintaining their uniqueness. However, O Interiors Limited successfully overcame these challenges, resulting in a design that is not only aesthetically pleasing but also functional and engaging.
Yachi Kura's innovative design has earned it the Silver A' Interior Space, Retail and Exhibition Design Award in 2023. This prestigious award is given to designs that demonstrate outstanding expertise, innovation, and artistic skill. Yachi Kura's award-winning design is a testament to O Interiors Limited's commitment to creating unique, engaging spaces that offer more than just a dining experience.
In conclusion, Yachi Kura is a testament to the power of design in creating immersive cultural experiences. Through its innovative multi-concept design, O Interiors Limited has created a space that not only offers a variety of dining options but also a journey through Japanese culture. It is a shining example of how design can be used to bring cultures to life, making it a deserving winner of the Silver A' Design Award.
